WORLD ISLAMIC MISSION (WIM)

ABOUT WORLD ISLAMIC MISSION

Formation
In February 1972, a conference of scholars and spiritual leaders from various
countries including Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Kashmir was held at Dar-
ul-Arqam, Makka al-Mukarramah during the hajj (pilgrimage). These notable
figures included:

* Allama Arshad-ul-Qadri
* Allama Abdus Sattar Khan Niazi
* Prof. Shah Faridul Haque
* Pir Syed Maroof Hussain Naushahi

The theme under discussion at this historical meeting was: "How can love and
respect for Islam be promoted so that Muslims can practice the Islamic way
of life? "

After much deliberation, these scholars agreed to establish an international
organization whose primary objective was to inspire Muslims worldwide to live
their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and blessed
Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad Salaahu 'alahi wa Sallam. The second objective
was to protect Islam from anti-Islamic forces on an intellectual platform.

Priorities
The name of the new international organization was named The World Islamic
Mission
, with head office in the United Kingdom. In 1974 the first World
Islamic Mission Conference was held in Bradford, England. Here it was decided
that Allama Shah Ahmad Noorani Siddiqui would be the first president of World
Islamic Mission, Pir Syed Maroof Hussain Naushahi the vice-president and
Allama Arshad-ul-Qadir the secretary general.

The main findings of the conference were that it helped to identify the main
priorities within the Muslim ummah based on current trends at the time. They
were:

  1. To preserve Islam in its pure spiritual form.
  2. To raise awareness of the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah.
  3. To develop the Muslim identity in the Western and post-colonial world.
  4. To promote mutual understanding, love and tolerance between all people.
  5. To organizing and participate in inter-religious meetings and to establish
dialogue with the followers of other faiths, i.e the People of The Book.

Leadership
By providing guidance and expertise at all levels, The World Islamic Mission helps
Muslims locally, nationally and internationally. It assists communities  to become
more organized so that they can develop socially, morally and spiritually in order to
become fully engaged in civil societies while maintaining their Muslim identity. The
World Islamic Mission supports and offer advice to communities around the world
so that they may establish mosques, schools, colleges, cultural centers, cemeteries
and centers for the elderly.

The World Islamic Mission plays a major role in the training of imams. It has its
own publishing house for the publication of Islamic books and periodicals. It is also
involved in the development of school curriculums for all ages. The World Islamic
Mission also prints and distributes copies of  the Holy Qur'an to individuals and
institutions free of charge in mainly poor countries.

In the context of Europe, in 1998 the President of the Islamic World Mission,
Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani Siddiqui Rahmatulla Alaih made a working visit to
the European Court to present the activities of World Islamic Mission within the EU.
It was determined that member countries of the EU would be represented by a
central WIM Europe with branches in UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, Norway and Netherlands.

In North America World Islamic Mission was established by Maulana Shah Ahmad
Noorani Siddiqui in 1989 with branches and affiliates in the United States and
         Canada.

The World Islamic Mission has been active in all continents, especially in those
countries where Muslims constitute a minority. It has branches in 46 countries with
an estimated constituency of 50 million. World Islamic Mission is committed to
working with leaders and communities of a wide cross section who share common
         interests and objectives.
